At Smith's Ready Mix, there is always room for advancement! Every plant manager or fleet manager starts out as a truck driver and works their way up in the company.

Once hired, all drivers will be placed in a mentoring program for SRM truck drivers. Upon successful completion of the program, there are additional monetary benefits.

Training programs exist for plant managers and fleet managers. All educational programs offered by Smith's Ready Mix are certified by the National Ready Mix Concrete Association.

Requirements for SRM Truck Driver Positions

--Must possess a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License)
--Must be 25 years of age or older
--Must be able to pass a drug test

--Must have a clean driving record

(A) All motor vehicle records for SRM drivers will be obtained and reviewed annually.

(B) Upon review of motor vehicle records, any employees with undesirable records are subject to disciplinary action up to, and including, termination of employment.

(C) Undesirable driving records are defined as following:

--More than three (3) moving violations and/or accidents in the last three years. 

--More than two (2) moving violations and/or accidents in the last year.

Drivers with a major conviction within the last 5 years, which include:
(a) Driving while intoxicated (DWI) or driving under the influence (DUI)
(b) Leaving the scene of an accident
(c) Careless or wreckless driving violations
(d) Homicide (vehicular homicide) or assault through the use of a motor vehicle
(e) Attempting to elude a police officer
(f) Suspended or revoked license, or drivers who have had three or more suspensions in the past

Drug Tests Are Given as Follows

--Pre-employment

--Reasonable suspicion

--Following an "on the job" accident

--Following rehabilitation

--Quarterly Random Testing

--Some illegal drugs are, but are not limited to: Heroin, Marijuana, Cocaine, PCP, and “Crack." They also include prescription drugs that are not prescribed by a licensed physician (including, but not limited to, narcotics such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, etc.).
--Employees taking drugs prescribed by a licensed physician must advise their direct supervisor in writing of the possible effects of such medication, regarding their job performance and physical/mental capabilities.

--Smith's Ready Mix exercises a "Zero Tolerance" policy with drug usage by employees and promotes a drug and smoke-free work environment.
